When you try to scan IBM PowerVM and LPARs, the scan may fail at the device discovery stage even though you have given the correct credentials.

This is due to the restricted shell environment available to SSH.

Work Around

  1. Create a target location for the devices with a restricted shell (e.g. HMC)
  2. For that location, change the SSH scan settings - change the option called "Use Command Without Path" from false to true
  3. Rescan the devices - it should now work
